It’s that time of the year for parents to decide how they would like their children to spend their summer vacation. Traditional summer camp gives the opportunity for children to develop their special talents and interests, as well as enrich their social skills with other kids of similar age. Canyon Creek Summer Camp


Popular for kids between the age of 7 and 16 who love sports and exercises! With fifteen years of experiences in running summer camps, Canyon Creek offers lots of sports facilities such as a skateboard park, sand volleyball court, solar heated pool, ropes and climbing wall, go-kart speedway, archery range, and amphitheater for evening activities. Pali Adventures


With 21 activities ranging from Flying Trapeze to dancing and fine art, children are free to choose the activities based on their interest. Camp instructors seem very nurturing, and will supervise the children with an utmost attention to safety. 2016 Summer Dates are between June12th to August 20th. There are ten weeklong sessions.

Rolling Robots

Running from June to August, 3 different locations in Los Angeles, recommended for kids between 5 to 14 year-old. Children will learn Arduino programming and build robots that can perform different tasks! They will have an opportunity to explore Autodesk 3D printing, learn various electrical, engineering and mechanical concepts, as well as Minecraft 2.0MOD. Each camp runs over 5 days and all the workshop materials are included.

Grey studios


For children who love acting and the entertainment industry, this camp will be conducted with no more than 12 to 14 children in class, to develop the acting talents of each kid. They offer improvisation, acting classes, and audition techniques. Children will be learning dramatic skills and then actually produce their own movie as David Grey, the owner of the studio invites them to “make a movie with us”. Occasionally, some well-known actors will be on hand to provide insight and leadership.

New York Film Academy


How does spending the summer on the Universal Studios backlot in Hollywood appeal to you? New York Film Academy offers high school students a chance to write, direct and produce their own short films -where they can also act if they want to. The day excursions will see them on a cruise to Catalina island, or at a cook out party on the beach, maybe enjoying surfing lessons, a visit to Six Flags Magic Mountain, attending screenings at famous movie palaces such as Mann’s, Cinerama Dome and Chinese, and much more.

Camp Keystone Day Camp

Located on 30 acres in Agoura Hills, just outside of LA, Camp Keystone Day Camp offers fun activities as a sleep away camps: from zip lining, horseback riding, a 274foot waterslide, go karting and rock climbing. Calicamp

With activities ranging from swimming to rock climbing, aerial arts, go-karting, ropes, outdoor skills, theater, dance, music and crafts courses, kids age 5 to 13 should find plenty to inspire them. The martial art of Won Moo Hapkido offered here focuses primarily on self-defense but at the same time teaches mental discipline and developing character as kids learn to win the battles within themselves.

Steve and Kate’s Camp

The summer camp here gives children the choice to dive into what they are interested in instead of having to follow a program. They will be given gentle guidance on being the best at what they choose – be it baking bread, developing soccer skills, stop-motion animation, water sport or dance. The camp is all-inclusive – no need to pack lunches or snacks or pay for extra materials. From the time you drop them off at 7.30 until 6pm their needs will be taken care of.

Camp Awesome

Kids are thoroughly occupied having fun from 9am to 5pm (extended hours) in a safe environment at Redondo Beach. You pay a little more for the extended hours at $180 for the week; regular hours from 10am to 4pm cost $160. They also have Camp Awesome at Playa del Rey where, in addition to the regular camps for kids aged 7 to 12, there is a Mini Camp Awesome for kids aged 5 to 6. Kids will have water activities, exercise, arts and crafts, make short movies and music videos, take field trips, and have beach parties besides achieving positive self-esteem, personal growth and social skills. Premier Development Academy

For kids aged 7 to 13 who love soccer, the five-day program from Aug 24th to Aug 28th offers coaching and strength and agility training from professional trainers to top US teams. Robertson’s Art Space Robertson Art

Robertson’s Art Space offers painting, drawing, ceramics, jewelry making, tie-dye, puppet making, karaoke, drum circle, and music top its kids. River Way Ranch Camp

This camp has won awards and been around for over 45 years so they know exactly how to take care of kids on sleep-away camps. The camp is very popular and some sessions are already waitlisted –so it’s better to book early for the June to August sessions. There are 75 activities at this camp – waterskiing, wave-runners, archery, martial arts, movie making, and horseback riding being just a few. Each kid will find something to pique their interest here while developing social skills.

The camp offers a number of activities that children can choose according to their interests from writing to dance, video production, makeup and costume design to photography, environmental science, outdoor adventures and leadership training. Camp Gilboa ghab onim The overnight camp for 8 to 17-year-olds on 40 acres near Bluff Lake immerses kids in activities and team building amid the pine forests. The living environment is kibbutz-style where kids learn community awareness and self-reliance. They will be involved in many outdoor activities as well as song, dance, and crafts. Aerial Warehouse Camp

If your kids are the types who are climbing and swinging from everything they shouldn’t be then it’s time to harness that energy and let them learn aerial silks, hoops, dance, trampoline, trapeze and tumbling…Parkour, too. Los Angeles Dept of Recreation and Parks

Griffith Park Boys' Camp and Camp Hollywoodland for Girls are two LA Parks programs that provide sleep-over camping; for daily Summer Camp activities, many parks within the Dept of Rec and Parks offer Summer Camp activities that include: daily free lunch, sport clinics, daily exercise, educational workshops, field trips, camp games and songs, arts and crafts, and swimming…

Many criteria will determine what parks offer camp, including City budget and local interest, so it is recommended that you either talk to your local park staff, or visit http://www.laparks.org for up-to-date information.
